Last year North Harbour were knocked out of Championship contention in the first round, now, one year later, North Harbour find themselves in a Premership semifinal against Waikato after stunning Wellington 30-27 in a thrilling encounter.

QUICK TAP: MITRE 10 CUP ROUND 4 REVIEW

Auckland were another side to make a big statement with a comprehensive 71-5 win over Manawatu while Canterbury edged Bay of Plenty 23-21. A mouth-watering Premiership semifinal now awaits Auckland and Canterbury on Wednesday.

The competition was very tight in the Championship with each result being decided by 11 points or less. Last year’s Michael Jones Trophy winners Counties Manukau edged Otago 15-13 in a nail-biting match-up. Hawke’s Bay were more dominant in overcoming Northland 25-14 while Heartland secured a memorable victory over Auckland Development. In the final game of the Championship division, Southland pipped Taranaki 32-28.

This sets up two intriguing semifinal clashes with Counties Manukau taking on Hawkes Bay and Southland facing Heartland.
