Otago too good for Stags

A hat-trick to right wing Mitchell Scott and a brace to left wing Jona Nareki were the individual highlights, but the work done by the midfield pairing of Sio Tomkinson and Matt Faddes, both with and without the ball, was vital to the cause.
Tomkinson set up one of Scott’s three tries with a sweet flick pass in a heads-up play. Faddes exposed some shoddy Stags defence with a solo try in which he broke no less than four tackles.

The best try was Nareki’s second in which Tomkinson gave a miraculous offload to Faddes who then fed his wing.
Leading 24-3 at the break and with the bonus point secured, Otago marched on in the second spell but the Stags were determined in pushing for three late tries to prop Morgan Mitchell, lock Maanaki Selby-Rickit and wing Isaac Te Tamaki.
Otago now advance to third on the Championship table while winless Southland remains rooted to the foot of the table.
